Research and innovation

Reggio Emilia has been establishing its place over the past decade as a bustling hub of research and innovation with the Reggiane Innovation Park as the beating heart of this ecosystem. Its over 200,000 m2 are home to institutions, companies, universities, start-ups and research and innovation centres, serving as an easy gateway and fusion point for the entire Reggio Emilia region.
Innovation first and foremost has to involve training and research, where the UNIMORE University is the top point of contact in the region and one of the most important ones in Italy for teaching and research.
Research projects are developed at its laboratories and research centres, both specialist and multidisciplinary ones, and 5 of these can be found at Reggio Emilia’s Tecnopolo:

Then there are research centres outside the University, accredited under the regional high-tech network and part of ART-ER.

Various stakeholders then support start-ups and companies with innovation and technology transfer.

These include:

  • REI Foundation: Alongside running the Tecnopolo, REI provides services to businesses in innovation processes, industrial and technological research and technology transfer through the Tech-Up Accelerator and Digital Automation Lab divisions and in collaboration with its own founding bodies.
  • Impact Hub: This is a community of professionals, a consultancy firm and a creative coworking space, and part of the global network of the same name, supporting innovators that develop projects with a sustainable and social impact.
  • Lab in Chiostri: As part of the “Open Laboratories” network, this lab generates business, job opportunities and alternative economic models starting from product and process innovation in the field of culture, personal services and education, acting as an incubator and accelerator for the development of innovative and sustainable projects.
  • Warrant Hub: This hub has been offering integrated consultancy services since 1995 to support business development projects in the fields of subsidised finance, company training, sustainability, digital transformation and innovation and exploitation of intellectual property.
